About Us

Smart Play. Strong Foundations.

Matesa Edu-Resource creates hands-on learning tools that help young children build confidence in early maths, language and problem-solving. Our kits turn everyday moments into learning moments, using play to strengthen the foundations that matter most in the early years.

We design for real classrooms, busy teachers and growing minds that learn best through touch, movement and exploration.

Who we are

Built in KZN, Designed for Real Classrooms

Matesa Edu-Resource is a South African learning design studio focused on the early years and Foundation Phase. We create simple, durable kits—sorting sets, number frames, story tools, pattern tiles and logic games—that children can use every day.

Our resources are tested in real schools and ECD centres so they work in spaces with large groups, mixed abilities and limited time. Everything is designed to be easy to set up, quick to explain and simple to pack away. As part of Kairos Media Group, we work alongside publishing, training and digital teams to support education programmes from prototype to full rollout.

Our Learning Philosophy

Play-First Design

Activities are built around curiosity and movement, helping children learn through exploration, repetition and joyful engagement.

Curriculum-Aware

Each kit links to CAPS-aligned early learning outcomes in literacy and numeracy, making it easier for teachers to reinforce skills they already teach.

Multilingual Support

Teacher cards use clear, simple English and can be adapted into isiZulu, isiXhosa or Sesotho for community-based programmes.

Made for Scale

Resources are tough, child-safe and supported by refill packs. Kits are designed to survive daily classroom use and multi-school rollouts.

What We Believe

Where Play Meets Purpose

Children learn best when they can touch, sort, build, count and tell stories. That is why every Matesa resource starts with play, not worksheets. We embed learning goals into activities that feel natural and enjoyable.

Our role is to help teachers and programme teams make learning visible—through tools that strengthen number sense, language, sequencing, comparison and early logic.

Dr Israel Govender
Founder & Executive Lead

Matesa Edu-Resource is guided by Dr Israel “Dr G” Govender, founder of the CATIMCO Group and the driving force behind the vision, values and direction of Matesa. He provides strategic oversight and ensures that every resource we design is grounded in clarity, usefulness and the realities of South African classrooms. His commitment to “integrity of the narrative” shapes how Matesa builds tools that truly support early learning.

Early learning tools must do more than entertain. They must help children build confidence, language and number sense in ways that make sense in real classrooms. At Matesa, we design for South Africa’s realities — diverse languages, crowded rooms and teachers who deserve resources they can actually use.
